Scarves are such a pleasant item to knit. Usually there are
no increases or decreases to track. You cast on enough stitches
for the size of scarf you are wanting, and then knit away in
total bliss until it is done.
The
other wonderful thing about knitting a scarf is the
opportunity to try numerous knitting stitches. You can make a
wonderful scarf with cables, texture stitches, lace or any
combination. Knitting a scarf is really a knitter's holiday!
You will find patterns in our secure shopping cart for
several beautiful scarves. SpinCraft Knitting Patterns are
written to help you discover your own creativity. Try a few of
our scarf suggestions, and before you know it, you'll be coming
up with your own ideas for scarves.
We have only two main points to share about scarf knitting.
First: use wonderful soft, natural fibers. A scarf is a perfect
project to show off your handspun silk, cashmere or other exotic
fiber. But most important, a scarf must be made from something
that is soft on the neck. A scratchy scarf will never be worn!
Second: Seek out knit stitch patterns that do not curl up.
This means that you will have to find stitches that are balanced
on both sides. Stockinette stitch, which is knit on one side and
purl on the other, will always curl. It is an example of a 100%
unbalanced stitch. Garter stitch, which is knit on both sides,
is an example of a 50% balanced stitch. It will never curl and
is the same on both sides.
Good choices are lace, cables, and knit/purl texture
stitches.
